What Is a Sweded Film?
Originating in the film Be Kind Rewind, Sweded films are no-budget remakes of existing movies — recreated entirely with whatever you have on hand. Think cardboard spaceships, bedsheet capes, and sound effects made with your mouth. The worse the budget, the better the film.
Sweded Film Fest 11 is Cinemadrome's eleventh annual celebration of low-budget filmmaking ingenuity. Teams of any size are invited to sign up, draw a film from the Giant List-O-Movies, and produce their own handcrafted remake in the weeks before the screening events.
← Pro tip: The best Swedes are films with big special effects, crazy costumes, and memorable scenes. Slow-burn dramas don't always make for exciting Swedes — but it's up to you!
Team Composition
- ▸There is no limit on cast and crew size.

Sign-Up & Eligibility
Official Sign-Ups begin March 30th. Complete the sign-up form online to reserve your spot. The sooner your project is approved, the sooner you can begin production. → Go to Sign-Up
📋 How Sign-Ups Work
- ▸Upon signing up, your team randomly draws three (3) films from our pre-approved Giant List-O-Movies.
- ▸From those three draws, select one film to Swede. Unselected films return to the pool.
- ▸Wild Cards exist in the pool, letting you choose your own film. Wild Card selections must be approved by Cinemadrome.
- ▸We're open to suggestions for films to add to the Giant List-O-Movies.
✅ Eligibility
- ▸All footage must be created during the competition window (after sign-up through April 20th).
- ▸Submissions are not limited to Gainesville, FL — anyone anywhere may enter online.
- ▸Prizes are from Gainesville, FL sponsors. Out-of-town winners will need to arrange collection.

Submission Guidelines
📁 File Format
- ▸Submit in H.264 / .mp4 format at 1080p or less. The venue projector and stream are both 1080p — 4K is overkill.
- ▸Maximum length: 6 minutes and 5 seconds.
📤 How to Submit
- ▸Teams receive an individual Google Drive link for upload, or may arrange a hard copy delivery to Cinemadrome.
- ▸Upload must be started by 11:59 pm on April 20th.
- ▸We'll notify you of any issues within 48 hours of turn-in.
📎 What to Include
- ▸Your completed film file.
- ▸Your final team roster (cast and crew).
- ▸A 30–50 word description of your film. Look up your film on IMDb or Netflix and adapt its description — ham it up to fit your Swede.
- ▸Optional but very helpful: A transcript or SRT file of your film's dialogue.
- ▸Optional: Any promotional material — trailers, posters, social media graphics. Post them and tag us!
Other Considerations
- ▸By participating, your team agrees not to screen your film anywhere else before May 8th, 2026. You're free to do whatever you'd like with it starting May 10th, 2026.
- ▸Your team grants Cinemadrome the right to use your film and/or likeness in future advertising, promotion, merchandise, on our official YouTube page, or via re-streams. We retain those rights indefinitely.
- ▸We reserve the right to limit the number of entries to ensure the screening doesn't exceed the time allocated.
- ▸All rules are subject to change. We'll contact you via email throughout the competition with any updates.
